Song Of The Week 27/04/2009: T9 - Oda Nashei Lyubvi

As a non-Russian speaker, information about T9 is pretty sketchy. Last.fm thought it was a Chinese rock group, and Google thought I was interested in predictive texting. Basically they are a Hip Hop group from Russia, and my favourite of their songs (which is my Song of the Week for this week), is Ода нашей любви (Oda Nashei Lyubvi), which made it onto the soundtrack for the video game Grand Theft Auto: 4. Its featured on the Russian music station within the game called Vladivostok FM, and despite not even getting recognition on the Wikipedia page for the GTAIV soundtrack, is one of my favourite tracks from the game.

If you are in the UK or US, you can listen to the song using Last.fm by clicking here

Despite my Last.fm not noting it, I've listened to this a lot on my MP3 player, and managed to learn the lyrics to the chorus, to much joy of my school mates.

At the moment I am very big on listening to foreign music. Listening to it all gives me a new outlook on music, and shows that no matter what language is being spoken, the music can still be enjoyed by all walks of life. I still get a lot of grief from those that dont understand why I listen to the music (Which actually started out with french rap as an aid to help me get used to hearing the language and learn it more), but lots of people are just used to me listening to it all the time. There is a huge following of Japanese Pop in non-Japanese culture, and its been proved that people who do not understand can enjoy music sung in languages which cannot be understood following international success of songs such as Nena - 99 Luftballons, or Ozone - Dragostea Din Tei.
